Oakland, CA – Thousands of volunteers from across the nation will participate in a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Thirteen cleaning, greening, and beautification projects will take place in Oakland, California, where approximately 2,000 volunteers are anticipated.
What: Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
When: Monday, January 16, 2017, 9am-noon
Where: Many Oakland locations

Large numbers of volunteers are expected to turn out at Fruitvale, Peralta Hacienda Historic Park, Lakeside Park Gardens at Lake Merritt, and the Morcom Rose Garden.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is sponsored by Service for Peace and The Corporation for National and Community Service. Service for Peace has organized this annual event in Oakland for sixteen years.
Oakland projects are being conducted in partnership with the City of Oakland Public Works, Oakland Unified School District, members of Oakland City Council, Americorps, Civic Corps, East Bay Regional Park District, Keep Oakland Beautiful, Friends of Sausal Creek, Urban Releaf, and other community organizations.
